Kuwie and I did a lot of work on the apartment today. My room continues to take shape with new lights and less clutter. But most importantly, there’s a yellow cable of network goodness flowing into my room. We nailed it down, snaking it through the apartment carefully for maximum concealment of a bright yellow Ethernet cable.
We also put up IKEA shelves and then learned that you need to account for slipping the shelves onto the support in making placement measurements. So we moved it to the left. Then we ran out of anchors. So we went to get anchors. Then we put on another shelf in his room and a shelf in mine. Then as I was hooking up my new reading lamp, I heard a smash.
“Are you all right?” I yelled. Hearing no answer, I tore down the hall to find that the entire top shelf in Kuwie’s room had fallen down. On the floor was a mixture of broken glass, pictures and books. So, we cleaned up, went to get more anchors and finally got everything back. Turns out that the shelves only hold 5 kg. So, instead of holding books up, my shelf has stuffed animals.
Here’s the thing: when Kuwie and I were growing up, we were not handy at all. But since he’s been living in his frat house for the last 2.5 years with a bunch of manly men who enjoy big power tools, he’s picked up a lot about home improvement. I’m really impressed with what he can do now, like reupholster furniture, make furniture (his desk and speaker stands), and now, destroy furniture.
Ummm, you didn’t either remember about the IKEA shelves that our brother and Jen got in their first apartment, or you didn’t read the weight limit on the shelves? You are too funny.
Can’t wait to see your new room!
