I worked all day on my sample web app. Well, it’s a real web app. It’s going to be what I use for “614″ (mental note to self: draw some comics before working on the site). Right.

So, the landlord came in today to fix our kitchen hood vent. We were trying to turn it on through the switch on the hood, which seems pretty logical. Oh wait, there’s a switch next to the stove that turns on the power to the hood (fan and light). He made some sort of remark like, “Oh, the computer genius couldn’t figure out a simple switch.” (Every time he’s come by, I’m in the apartment working on the site. He’s easily impressed by my three computers laid out on the desk)

So then after showing us his ingenious switch (”I designed this whole kitchen myself 2 years ago,” he said), he said my favorite quote of the day.

“You know, Orientals cook all the time. Their parents train them to do it. Other people, not so much.”

I looked at Kuwie as if to say, “Did he just say what i think he said?”

Oh yes, he did. He blathered on some more, but I was still brain clicking over that line.

Click click click.

He left, finally, and we went on with our day, me coding PHP and Kuwie doing LSAT stuff. When everyone else got home, I made sure to say “the Orientals” as much as possible.

You know, us Orientals. Can’t take a simple remark in stride.
