Epic

Last night’s dream was like an amalgam of Stephen King plots thrown together with some Lord of the Rings and various other bits of stuff. I blame it on the video games.

The dream started with me reading this story, and sort of seeing it in my head. There were these two brothers, not quite human. One was human, but he had a destiny (”And a child will lead them,” from Insomnia). The other brother had been placed, as if by some higher power, in order so that when this child would need to make this big decision which would affect the world, he would have someone there to say the right thing. No pressure…

At the same time I was seeing this, it was like I was reading it too. And large sections of the book were the first brother’s journal, which was discombobulated italic babble (all of King’s book have way too many italics). And I dreamt that my Grampa Sloane had found this book and thrown it out, thinking that it was all just journal. Then he read it and liked it and gave it back to me.

The story followed the boys growing up (their mother was caring, nurturing, etc) and then it did this jump cut to the future. Post apocalyptic future, but like the Stand, all the old stuff was still there. It was just unused. (The Stand, or perhaps the Dark Tower world). And whatever had killed off most of the world had spared just a few people who’d banded into two groups. The good group and the bad group. Our heroes were in the good group and the plague or event had turned them into giants. This group had reverted to medieval type society (Totally the Dark Tower) and they trained for battle with these ornate spears. They wore chain mail and one brother wore red and the other wore blue.

And then the battle between good and evil began and there was this awesome epic type shot of the brothers striding into it, towering over their friends, swinging their spears.

When they realized that the entire other army was also giant, armed with better weapons (like cars turned into chariots and things). From time to time, I’d become the blue brother (decision guy) and do some sweet flips and spear thrusts (this was Lord of the Rings inspired, I’m sure).

And then I was captured and cornered and cut off from the rest of the army in a museum like bullding. These slimy guys in suits came up and asked me to defect to the other side. They outlined the positives. Their superior technology. The ability to unite everyone.

And to my shame, I chose their side. I waited in the gift shop with the other defectors and realized that they were all Asian. I asked them, “Why did we all switch?” and they just shrugged and looked sad.

And we waited for the battle to be over.

And I woke up.
