Party Weekend

Posted on Monday 16 September 2002

This was quite a weekend for being social. Saturday was the first video game night for my brother’s Gaming Enthusiast’s mailing list group. Steve D held the party at his condo in town. I brought over my PS2 and a crapload of games but we spent most of the night playing Gamecube, since that had more 4 player games. Fave game of the night was Sega Soccer Slam, the NFL Blitz of soccer games. Good cartoony fun. We also played Agent Under Fire (Escort map! snipers!) a lot on my PS2.

The night was a lot of goodnaturedly geeky fun, except for a brief interlude when Steve’s cousin (also named Steve) popped in GTA3 to show everyone. He did all these cheats and just ran around killing people and picking up prostitutes. I know, I know, it’s in the game. But really, it’s there if you want it to be there. The scary scary man said, “This sort of game is what keeps me from killing people,” and I think he’s right. He had to duck out early since he had to be in court the next day. I’m not making this up. Scary man.

It’s funny how those sort of people make you feel wonderful about everyone else in the room, simply by virtue of not being one of those people. There was another guy there named Craig who I wasn’t wild about at first. But after meeting Cuz Steve, I was ready to invite him to the 614 BBQ.

Which bring me to our big BBQ. We cleaned the whole apartment earlier today. It took way too long. It was group effort filled with group witch hunting (”Whose is this?” “Hey, I’m taking that home soon, really!” etc etc). But soon we were spic and span.

Grilling was an extensive operation, especially since the power went out right as we started. Rick and I prepared the hamburger. Kuwie was Grill-Masta Flash for the evening, as is his wont. We had a bunch of people over, and a good time was had by all. The power even got turned back on. Now we have many hamburger patties leftover, ready to be turned into “meatballs” or “Salisbury steak” with the addition of sauce. Or, dare I dream, “reheated hamburger…”
