Movie: The Transporter

Posted on Sunday 13 October 2002

On Friday afternoon, Adam called. “What are you doing tonight? Don’t tell me something lame.” See, Adam has been all about The Transporter ever since September, when it was supposed to be released. When I told him it had been pushed to October, the resulting cry from him was truly heartbreaking.

But it was finally time to see The Transporter in action and see if it could live up to its trailer. He got online tickets (print from home!) and I met him at the theater after seeing a medieval music quartet with El. So I really got a wide range of culture Friday night.

The movie started out well with a fun car chase (love that black BMW and those quick stick shift shots). Jason Statham has this great calculating stare that seems to say, “I am thinking of ways to defend myself or inflict pain on others.” The movie went spectacularly over the top soon after and it had some great moments where we all looked at each other in shock. That’s what I go to see movies by Hong Kong action directors. That’s what I got.

My dad likes to come out of movies dissecting plot holes.

You shouldn’t do that if you want to remember The Transporter fondly.

I asked Adam, “Did it live up to your expectations?”

“No, but how could it?” he said.

Someone needs to make a movie that’s just trailer bliss.
