Aagh! I was going to cocoon myself at Unicorn today to catch up on the 1500 words I’m behind on my NaNo novel. See, Mira’s in town again for training. So last night we went to the Hopleaf for drinks (and I got to meet her guy, who is also in town). They bought me drinks, which was nice.
This guy came by from another table with a deck of cards and did some magic tricks for us. Guess a card tricks. For the first one, Mira picked a card and put it back in the deck. Then the guy turned over cards, evidently gauging in our faces when he had come across the right one. So every three cards, I leaned over and screamed things like, “Holy crap!” and “Sweet frickin’ bippy!” He got it down to 2 cards, the four of spades and the four of clubs. She’d picked the spades. I grabbed the clubs and said, “Will you have my children?”
The trick he did for Mira’s boyfriend was cooler. Again, card was picked and placed in deck. Then he started pulling cards saying, “Is this your card?” and dropping it on the table then putting the next one on top. Then when he’d asked 5 times, he gave me the rest of the deck and counted the cards, face down. He put the 5 in Phil’s hand loosely, and then hit the cards. There was one card left in Phil’s knuckle, the correct card. Pretty cool…
But of course Phil and I had to work out exactly how he did the trick, tipsily. Ah, beer. How intelligent it makes us…
Then the guy came back and asked me to hold out my hands. He ashed into his hands and then said he was going to put the ash into my hand. Sure enough it was there but haHA, I’d seen this trick before. See, when I held out the hands, he turned them around, palms down and that’s when he laid the ash. Got you, bar magician man!
So today I’m terribly behind in the novel. I am using the TripTik from my spring break trip to put in details and I realized I’d glossed over a good sized portion of road (all of Kentucky, really), leaving giant plot holes. And so I went back, trying to repair the damage detailwise while keeping the other stuff and it was just messy. Gaa. If I don’t make it, I’m going to point to this weekend and say, “Hey. That’s when it all hit the fan.”
Right now I’m doing functional laundry: only the stuff I need. Underwear, mostly, but also some dress shirts because taDA I have 2 interviews. I had a phone interview this morning and got a second round for it this afternoon. The other one (on Monday) is for a company that is right around the corner from where I live…
