Laughapalunga

Posted on Monday 18 November 2002

I drove to St. Louis on Saturday for the Laughapalunga Comedy Festival at City Improv. Laurel and I were performing with Mike, our old director. We got to see teams from ImprovBoston and from Chicago.

Our show was OK (actually, I had a great time with a little COOH-rage in me). But the funniest part happened after I got offstage. This guy came up to me and said, “This girl really wanted you to have this,” and he handed me a business card (his) and phone numbers on the back. And a description: “Powder blue top, Fun blonde.” The guy told me, “If you don’t want it, I will take that number. Call tonight.” Mike said words to the effect of, “I’ve been doing improv three times as long as you and I’ve never gotten a number!” Guys were jealous. It was funny. Needless to say, I did not contact her, since I’m dating El (I’m not icky and sketchy). But it’s a good story. And the most flattering thing to happen to me since I started improvising.

Closing the night was a music set by Jon Baer (link might be wrong, the server seems down). He was hilarious. I got both of his CD’s. Fave song so far is “KKKaren.”
