Had a great weekend at home for Turkey Day. Brought El home to meet the folks as well as my boisterous Uncle Peter and Auntie Suzanne and she was well received by all, especially my little niece who calls her “Auntee Dris-a-bus” which is cute beyond words.
My niece also has a spiff play slide set up in my parent’s basement. I never got anything nearly so cool. Family friend Robert said that his kids have one too that they are growing out of so I guess all kids these days get to have cooler toys. But hey, we got to play with plastic guns that looked like real guns so it’s all good.
We ate so much this trip. From Wednesday when we got in until lunch today (and beyond! I have leftovers that my mom packed me) we have been stufffed until bursting. I told El that my parents must’ve really liked her because they took us to the best Italian place in town on fri night for dinner. Mmmm, pasta.
The only thing we didn’t get to eat was the meal I’d been promising her for weeks: Kopp’s custard. We were just too full to manage it. Sigh. Maybe I can get Rick to bring some down in a cooler…
I saw my friend Johnny V on Fri night (the only friend I saw this trip back) and we played fussball and pool and an aborted game of darts. He also showed me some pics of his summer trip to Montana. I haven’t seen this guy in a year or two but really, things are still the same. Go all male high school bonding.
I also went to my old high school on Friday. Haven’t been back in two years. My brick is still backstage, listing my name and my shows. (El said, “I didn’t know you were such a theater geek). They also made the school newspaper look icky. Sigh. Finally ,we took in the art museum and I got to see all the stuffwe didn’t have time to see when my parents too me to see the Da Vinci traveling exhibit there.
So that’s the laundry list of what happened when I was home but what really happened was I got to see my family open its arms wide to the girl I’ve opened my arms to and it was a great big hug for all involved. I wish I could express it better but I just wrote the last of 50,000 words and I think I’m all written out.
Kip Kip Kip! I disappear from the internet for three months to play Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest and when I come back, everything’s changed. A girl put your heart back (yay!). What next? Will Tycho and Gabe look like their comic strip selves? Eep!
Anyway, I plan to read many more adventures of Kip and El. Wheee!
