X-Entertainment: Photon - The Television Series.
My brother used to get the Photon books. The books were all pretty light sci fi reading, and obviously tied into the Photon franchise, but the book that survived our childhood was the more serious “Thieves of Light.” Which is probably why my memories of the Photon stuff is slanted towards the heavier side.
Now, the TV show is to be commended for making live action something that cried out to be animated. I mean, anyone can draw the type of stuff described in the novels, but actually going to the trouble to make filmable versions of the Foppon race (Pike) smacks of outright audacity for the limitations of special effects available at the time.
I only saw a brief snippet of one of the Photon episodes. It was at my aunt’s house and it was on around the time of the Super Mario Bros show, which has been roasted on the web before. I saw it and recognized the character names (Tivia and Bhodi Li… good upstanding names like that) but before I could settle down to kill the brain cells, I had to go to my violin lesson.
