Happy Memorial Day

Posted on Monday 26 May 2003

OK, comments like the ones in the previous entry are what keep me blogging. :-) Keep it up, folks! Maybe I’ll post three times a week!

I’m typing this now waiting for Kuwie and Rick to get back from Sam’s Wine with stuff for today’s barbeque. Sheila and I went to get groceries at Jewel, which was filled with many other crazy people also getting foodstuffs for grilling.

There’s a Titanic show tonight, but I am not really looking forward to it because I’m going to be digesting pounds of meat in my belly.

Speaking of food… I’ve been alternately starving / bingeing this weekend. Last night El’s friend cooked omelettes for us and also made guacamole (mmm, avocado…) and for dessert there was creme brulee with peaches on top.

Sil was in town this weekend for a family weekend, so I drove out after dinner to see her. I was grousing about it, but I’m glad I went. We hung out at Baker’s Square (ah, suburbia: the Galyan’s Fine Furniture nestled in a minimall, across from the food side of the road, replete with Red Lobster, Benihana, and Joe’s Crab Shack) and I tried to eat more food. Why, pie, why?

It was really good to see her (almost didn’t recognize her: her hair’s all short now, even shorter than Strip Sil’s). Then I went back and picked up Kuwie from O’Hare. I could actually wait at a vestibule for him to come out without a security guard coming over and hustling me along! It was pretty sweet.

I play iPod Solitaire whenever I’m bored. It’s doing wonders for my patience.

Three day weekends. Not only are they awesome for the three days, but they also cut short the next week by a day! Woohoo!

Added some new stuff to Bull and Bunny this weekend. I’m kind of proud that I did the code in one day. Now to see if anything breaks. Oh yeah, and then I still had to make the strip. I need to add more automation into this whole thing. :-)

Wow Jus- er, Kip. Juskip. I’m really impressed with your blog. I think it takes energy and determination to maintain it and keep writing - and especially when one has a full-time job to deal with. I’ve heard people criticize personal blogs as trivial, but I think the very fact that some girl (and others) find your work by chance and smile from reading it - a very substantial, if still ethereal, kind of contact - makes your entire project worthwhile beyond what any naysayer might say. If I could say that each day I made one stranger genuinely smile and feel good, just for that day, I’d feel like it was a worthwhile use of time. More so than coding, anyway, which only makes me feel good - and even then not always.

(I really ought to turn my head to the right and say this more directly, but I like writing it out)
