Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Things were a bit nuts.
So let’s see… Went to New York a week ago for the Del Close Improv Festival. Mike and I flew out on Friday.
I stayed with Chern and Jure that weekend. Did a lot more walking than I did the last time I was in New York. The theater was a couple blocks from their apartment, but there was no subway stops nearby, so I had to hoof it.
The festival was overloaded with Chicago groups. Part of me thought, “I can see all these people back home.” But it was cool to have them all performing one after another, for 2.5 days straight.
Of course, that meant that some groups got screwed, in terms of time slot. Like us. We played at 11:30 AM on Sunday, to a crowd of people who were mainly there to wait for the amazing shows closing out the festival and the odorous die hards who just wanted to make it through the entire marathon without leaving their seats.
Yeek.
Our show sucked. I felt really bad about my stuff. On the other hand, now I can say, “I’ve performed in New York!”
We also went toy shopping for remote controlled airplanes for Jure’s nephew. Man, kids have cool options for entertainment these days. I think we finally decided on the AirHogs one. Only $50! Of course, it doesn’t fly that long…
We also went to Barney’s. You know, up until that point, I was thinking, “I’m getting some cash now, I should upgrade my wardrobe.” And then I started looking at the price tags.
Nope, still a clothes miser at heart.
Anyway, New York impressed me more the more time I spend there. It appeals to one part of me (the aspiring hipster) while the West Coast calls to the laid back slacker in me. Wonder where I’ll end up?
