So, I didn’t get a seat near one of the WiFi stations, and my cellphone did not work to connect.
Anyway, as I’m sure those in the know know, the Mac mini and iPod shuffle were released, as rumored. The Mac mini is amazingly small. I couldn’t believe it. It’s like a 1/2 Cube or something. Everyone at the booth couldn’t resist just picking it up and hefting it. I’d love to drop $500 on one for the living room, but that seems excessive.
iPod shuffle… man, I could feel Steve’s Reality Distortion Field in full effect as he told us that since screens would be small and bad on something so small, they’d just ditched it. Why ever would you want to know what’s playing?
I got to the keynote at 6AM. Didn’t have to wait too long to get inside. The holding area time went quickly with a combination of iPod, book, GBA, and web surfing.
Keynote was a spiffy affair. I sat with a guy we met at the Mac Managers party and we had a pretty good view of one of the big screens. Had a good time waiting for suspense to build throughout the talk and the Tiger demos. The Mac mini intro was awesome. People knew it was coming, but man, the size! Absolutely amazing.
After the Keynote, I called Kuwie and then bustled around with the thousands of other people who didn’t know where to go to get to the exhibit hall. Finally made it in. Walked around randomly looking for stuff. Picked up some freebies, traded my contact info for chances to win, etc.
Met up with 2 other guys from Mac Managers for lunch. Mildly regret calling one of them a poser in the post about yesterday. Afterwards, one of them and I walked around the floor looking for more freebies (not many this year).
I bought Revolution in the Valley and got it signed by the author and also Wil Wheaton’s book, which I hope to get signed on Thurs when he’s there.
My brother finished up his lunch with the cool kids of the Mac world and the run through of his talk and we met up on the floor for another pass around the exhibit hall. I kinda want to get one of those lap pads for my computer, but I can find one I like enough and is also portable. Hmmm.
Anyway, we’re back at the hotel now and waiting to go to dinner. Naptime.
