I got the sidebar music stuff running with Recent Tunes and WP-Itunes. I had the hardest time getting Recent Tunes working, but that’s because I’m dumb. To save people some trouble, I offer the following advice…
- Current tune: only select ‘Upload current tune file’
- Recent tune: deselect upload recent tunes file
- Upload file: select HTTP Get. Put the just your server name and perhaps path into the box (in my case, it’s www.kipster.org/kipworld/)
- Templates: Get Args should be clickable and nothing else. Enter this into the box: “wpitunes=your wp-itunes key here&track=^t&artist=^p&album=^a&genre=^g”
- Now install WP-Itunes on your blog.
It should work now… although you might want to make some edits. I changed WP-Itunes to have a rating column and added it to my Recent Tunes template. Also, I don’t really like how the tunes are output in WP-Itunes, so I may rewrite the generation function soon.
Also, out of the box, WP-Itunes doesn’t handle special characters very well (I think the author’s host has get_magic_quotes turned on). So, I wrote a quick safe_addslashes function and edited the plugin file to call that on the arguments before inserting into the database. Finally… things are happy!!! Now I just have to worry about embarrassing songs getting uploaded…
thanks for the additional info… but on my blog, it still doesn’t seem to work, get this error:
WordPress database error: [Table ‘newforms.wp_itunes’ doesn’t exist]
SELECT * FROM wp_itunes ORDER BY added_date DESC LIMIT 3
do you have any idea how to fix this…? what password do i have to put in recent tunes… the ftp or the wordpress… or the mySQL…? i’m so confused… i would love to get this thing to work…
also, the upload url, does it have to be www.whatever.com/index.php…? or with out the index php… so many questions… i would aprechiate any help…
Yeah, that’ll happen if you haven’t created the table yet. The plugin is supposed to do it, but sometimes it screws up. You can try to create the table by yourself in mySQL.
