Concert: Butch Walker 5/24/05

Posted on Thursday 26 May 2005

Brock and Phil had an extra ticket to go see Butch Walker Tuesday night, so I snagged it. Brock’s been talking up Butch a lot (he once saw 4 shows in as many days). Time to see what all the fuss was about.

We got to the Metro around 7:20 or so. The first of the opening bands (The Fags) was midway through their set. While I didn’t mind their music, I’m glad we came in the middle, since all of their songs sounded mostly the same. The highlight of the set was when the drummer poured some water onto his right drum to kick up a spray when he hit it. When the water bottle ran out, he tossed it into the crowd and the band stopped to watch it fly. It came right for us and Phil stretched out his arm and caught it. It was so sweet.

Next band was called Low Millions and they had two things going: one of their guitar players was a hard rockin’ Asian (always cool) and also their lead dude looked like Steve Gutenberg. Maybe they only had one thing going.

Then came the man.

So sad

Posted on Tuesday 24 May 2005

I have the phone number to EB Games on my cell phone, but not my doctor.

On the other hand, my doctor can’t supply me with WarioWare Twisted, so I guess that’s OK.

Episode III

Posted on Thursday 19 May 2005

Just got back from the midnight showing… it was fun! They let us go into the theater at 9 to sit, which was awesome. Prashant brought his PSP, and hooked me on Lumines (I tried to knock him off the high score list completely). I’m going again in 12 hours (with work people) so maybe I’ll post then. Sleepy now.

Tiger!

Posted on Sunday 1 May 2005

Like most other Mac heads out there, I took the plunge on Tiger this weekend. I didn’t participate in any Apple Store hoopla on Friday, but I went out first thing in the morning on Sat to score a copy.

Had to wait for my AlBook to frantically backup everything before popping in the Tiger DVD. Took 4 hours, but I took the time to write a story and putter around a bit.

Went through the install very smoothly. I didn’t even Archive and Install, just upgraded, since I don’t have too much crazyness installed.

Concert: Guster 4/19/05

Posted on Saturday 23 April 2005

Tuesday was Northwestern’s A&O Ball… something I never went to when I was in school (they never had bands I liked). This year, the guest was Guster. El’s roommate’s boyfriend really really likes them so we all went. It was at the Riviera.

I scored a spiffy spot about a block away and then we went in. Got patted down, which didn’t happen at the Decemberists (I wonder what they thought NU students would be packin’) and then we went up to the balcony. The front balcony section was VIP only so we sat in the first row after it. It was really funny watching people come in, try to sit there, and then get shooed up to our section.

The opening band was the Zambonis. They play hockey rock. I felt bad for them because they were really trying hard, but most of the audience wasn’t there yet and the ones that were (Guster crazy sorority girls) really weren’t into songs that use hockey as a metaphor for life and love.

Then came Guster.

Dot-Pin Sets

These look sweet. I kinda want Luigi (since I was always player 2!) but Mario would probably be more recognizable…
